Iceland Trip Part I

We arrived in Iceland early morning on Friday. Went to our hotel to drop off the luggage and went straight to Downtown Reykjavik for some breakfast. As we walked around we noticed a cool restaurant called Laundromat. We decided to give it a try…. we each got green smoothies to give ourselves an immunity boost since we hadn’t slept at all and airplanes aren’t exactly the cleanest… as you can see in the picture below, we were very happy and delirious looking 🙂

We then decided to share an avocado toast entree with a ham and cheese croissant… I swear the eggs in Europe taste so much better than the US… I was curious where they had imported the avocado from but didn’t want to be that annoying American Tourist asking them where it’s from 🙂 I enjoyed it nonetheless!

After breakfast we got super energized and walked around town a bit… we had a tour bus picking us up at the hotel so we headed back not too long after… we booked the Golden Circle Express Tour which took us to Thingvellir National Park, Gullfoss Water Fall & the Geysir Geothermal Area.

First Stop was at the Thingvellir National Park where we got to see the Tectonic Plates. It was very cold and that Arctic wind really burns but the views were so beautiful and worth the frozen nose and fingers 🙂

Then we headed to the Gullfoss Waterfalls. Gullfoss in Icelandic means “Golden Falls” and it is located in the Hvita River Canyon in Southwest of Iceland. It is absolutely beautiful !

Last but not least, the tour took us to the Geysir Geothermal Field. This entire area is located on top of a boiling cauldron. There are several hot springs that erupt every 10 minutes or so. You have to be very careful because if that steam or water hits you, it’ll burn you. They are cool to watch though 🙂

We then head back to Reykjavik. We then had a night cruise booked to see the northern lights. I was very excited for this tour based on the pictures I had seen online. What we actually saw was much different. Granted there was an overcast, we still got to see some faint neon green lights which were impossible to capture in a picture. I guess this one will just remain a photo in our memories…
By the time we got back to the hotel it was 2 AM and we had not slept for over 24 hours. We dropped on the bed and I just don’t remember anything after that…

The next day we had a tour booked for the Blue Lagoon.

XO,
The Girl With The Eyebrows
